Amy Kilbourne, Ph.D., M.P.H.
Biography
Dr. Amy M. Kilbourne, PhD, MPH is Acting Deputy Chief Research and Development Officer for Investigators, Scientific Review and Management for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Research and Development and Professor, Department of Learning Health Sciences, University of Michigan (UM) Medical School. She is a national expert in implementation science, notably the development and testing of strategies that support health care providers in delivering effective treatments and innovations more rapidly to their patients. Dr. Kilbourne has led several national implementation initiatives across the U.S. to improve patient outcomes including quality, cost, and experience, and developed national research agendas focused on health disparities, mental health, chronic conditions, and Learning Health Systems. She also leads MICHR's Dissemination and Implementation (D&I) Catalyst, a U-M-wide initiative to promote the implementation of evidence-based practices in real-world settings. In her VA role Dr. Kilbourne is also supporting VA’s Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI) which supports the more rapid implementation of research evidence into practice, and the VA's fulfillment of the Foundations for Evidence-based Policymaking Act, which requires government agencies to use evidence and evaluation to justify program budgets.
