Biography
Dr. Seo received her undergraduate degree Magna Cum Laude at Ewha Womans University in Seoul, South Korea, and PhD degree at Pennsylvania State University. She completed a 2-year postdoctoral research fellowship at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health where she was promoted to a research associate. In 2016, Dr. Seo joined the faculty of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Seo has been recognized with numerous awards. She received NIH / NIEHS K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award in 2014, Early-Career Faculty Investigator Grant Award, Neurodegeneration of brain iron accumulation (NBIA) association in 2018, Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research (MICHR) Pathway to Independence Award in 2019, and the American Society for Nutrition E. L. R. Stokstad Outstanding Young Investigator Award in 2019, given for excellent fundamental research in nutrition to scientists at relatively early stages in their careers, in 2019.

Research
Dr. Seo's research interests are in discovering novel and fundamental insights related to iron and manganese biology in physiology and disease. Using cellular, molecular, and genetic approaches, Dr. Seo’s current research program seeks to study the mechanisms regulating metal homeostasis and to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for treating disorders of metal imbalance.
